2021 Season Previews

Like all baseball fans, there are certain times of the year that we look forward to the most.

The World Series, of course, is one. The trade deadline, frantically trying to work out whether the prospect your team just traded for is any good, is another.

But there is no time quite as special as the build up towards Opening Day.

Every team starts the year 0-0 and even the most pessimistic of fan allows themselves to get a little hopeful about the season ahead.

What if your opponents get bitten by the injury bug? What if your rookie call-up can put up huge numbers? What if things just go our way and we win it all? What if...

The baseball season is now only 30 days away. Spring training is well underway and with meaningful games just around the corner, we thought we would preview and try to predict the upcoming season for each of the 30 teams - one a day until 1st April.

The plan is to work through the divisions alphabetically going east to west, starting with the American League.

We used a lot of different resources to get information and base our opinions on. We love these sites listed below and others too. We wholeheartedly recommend you check them out if you have a bit of spare time. You might be surprised how easy and fun it is to dig deeper into statistics and trade history.

For example, did you know that Mike Trout hit a home run in 7.1% of his plate appearances in 2020, which is nearly 2 1/2 times more often than the MLB average?

Or that in 1956, catcher Harry Chiti was effectively traded for himself when he ended up being the "player to be named later" in an earlier trade?

As per usual, feel free to jump to the comments or join us on twitter @gbbaseballcards to let us know if you agree or disagree.

We'd love to hear your thoughts and predictions.
