2021 Season Predictions - Reviewed

After what seems like an impossibly long winter, we are now just a few days away from hearing "play ball" as the 2022 MLB season gets underway. It seemed at times that the lockout would seriously threaten the length of the season, but thankfully we've got a full 162 game season to look forward to. Even if it is starting a little later than usual.

With the lockdown before last season, we had the luxury of time and were able to preview each team individually. Things are a little more hectic this time around though, so we've decided to do a quick divisional preview to go along with our predictions for the new season.

But before all that, we've got a long overdue look back at the predictions we made this time last year. We were *cough* not great in our 2021 predictions. But the way we see it, that means that there's a greater chance of improvement this time around.

Let's start of with the positives; our correct predictions from the regular season. We picked the Astros and Braves to win their divisions. Predictions that around 99% of people would have made, we know, but we need to scratch every single positive out of here because they are few and far between! From here on out though, it makes pretty ugly reading.

We only correctly predicted that the Yankees, White Sox, Astros, Braves, Cardinals and Dodgers would make the postseason. Which isn't awful when you consider that is 50% correct. Or 50% wrong, depending on how you want to look at it.

However, we didn't see Houston or Atlanta make the World Series. Nor that the Braves would win it all for the first time since 1995.

Our biggest mis-step though was predicting that Minnesota would win the AL Central. Only for them to finish bottom of the division with the 3rd fewest wins in the American League. Ouch.

We didn't predict the Giants or Tampa Bay doing as well as they did, nor how badly San Diego would under perform.

To make matters worse, we didn't get a single individual end of season award winner right either. No Cy Young, no MVP, no Rookie of the Year...Nothing. 0-8.

Hindsight really is 20/20.

But that was last season. And 2022 is nearly here. So will we do better this time around? Probably not. But we're sure going to try!
